I have noticed that coffee prices are going up. Rather unfortunate but South America cannot help the unfavorable weather. Anyway, an increase in coffee prices would not stop the stressed out and tired american populace from their cup of morning coffee.
I have noticed the rise of prices as well. If Starbucks for expensive before, coffee will become completely unaffordable to students for the most part. Weather is a factor for many farmers. I recall a short deficit on rice last year due to similar issues with the weather.
I like the authors wording, "A trifecta of bad news". It is amazing how the weather has such an impact on markets involved with farming and it cannot be controlled. Most people would never realize that the cost of coffee could rise here in the U.S. due to bad weather in South America. They don't see the "ripple effect", rather they just think they are being ripped off. I agree with Sara that people will not stop drinking coffee, even if the prices go up. I mean look, they didn't stop smoking when prices went up.
